The Indian Government should take prompt steps to ensure the safety and security of not only the Sikh community but also other Indians in Pakistan—Mukesh Sharma

New Delhi: Thousands of Congress workers, under the leadership of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Subhash Chopra, held a demonstration outside the Pakistan Embassy in Chanakyapuri to protest against the mob attack on Nankana Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan. People from all sections of society and religions participated in the demonstration, shouting anti-Pakistan slogans. Shri Chopra said that this was not only a matter of grave concern for the Sikh community, but also for other Indians in Pakistan. Shri Chopra appealed to the Central Government to not only ensure the safety and security of the Sikh community and their properties, but also other Indians in Pakistan.

Besides Shri Subhash Chopra, prominent others who participated in the demonstration were Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely, Arvinder Singh Lovely, Parvez Hashmi, Harun Yusuf, Mukesh Sharma, Ramesh Kumar, Krishna Tirath, Udit Raj, AICC Secretary Kuljit Singh Nagra, Manish Chatrath, Mangatram Singhal, Rajesh Lilothia, Tarvinder Singh Marwah, Vijay Singh Lochav, Veer Singh Dhingan, Jitendra Kumar Kochar Jitu, Jagjivan Sharma, Jaswant Rana, Mukesh Goel, Balram Tanwar Varyam Kaur, Aaley Mohammed, Amarlata Sangwan, Guddi Devi, Rajesh Chauhan, Gurcharan Singh Raju, Hari Kishan Jindal, Indrajit Singh, Vishnu Agrawal Dinesh Kumar, Sunil Kumar Sevadal, Arjun.

Congress workers started assembling at the Teen Murti Chowk from 3 p.m, and carrying placards and tri-colour in their hands, began marching toward the Pakistan Embassy, shouting anti-Pakistan slogans such as “Pakistan Hosh Mei Aao, Hosh Mei Aao; Bharatiyon Ko Mat Satao” etc. The Congress demonstrators were stopped by the police near the Chanakyapuri Police Station. Police had to strain hard to control the agitated Congress workers as they tried to force their way toward the Pakistan Embassy. Police arrested the demonstrators to stop their march.

Addressing the demonstrators, Shri Subhash Chopra said that not only the Sikh community, but also people from across India, were concerned with the mob attack on the Nankana Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan. He said that it was a calculated attack on the Gurdwara despite the presence of pious Sikh devotees inside the Nankana Sahib Gurdwara. He strongly condemned the stone-throwing and destruction at the Gurdwara and demanded that the Indian Government should ensure the safety and security of the Sikh community and other Indians in Pakistan.

Shri Chopra said that it was a grave violation of international laws to subject the Sikh community to recurring violence. He expressed his concern at the forcible conversion of people from other religious faiths in Pakistan.

Former Delhi Minister Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely said that on the one hand, Pakistan had opened one more Kartarpur corridor, and on the other hand, violence has been unleashed on the Nankana Sahib Gurdwara, which shows the double face of Pakistan. He said that for the Congress party, it was not a political, but an emotional issue.

Chief spokesperson Shri Mukesh Sharma said that India will not forgive such mob violence against the Sikh community in Pakistan. He requested the Indian Government to take prompt steps to ensure the security of Indians in Pakistan.
