BJP and AAP are misleading 40 lakh people living in unauthorized colonies—Subhash Chopra

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Subhash Chopra announced here today that if the Congress comes to power in Delhi, it will replicate the Kalkaji model to build 25-square metre in-situ multi-storey flats to relocate people living in JJ clusters in Delhi without demolishing any of the JJ clusters. Shri Chopra said that this will be one of the main promises in the Congress manifesto for the Delhi Assembly elections, adding that “Congress fulfills what it promises”, and the “Kalkaji model” is a shining example for that. He said that he got the Kalkaji project started when he was the area MLA.

Addressing a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan here today, Shri Subhash Chopra said that both BJP and Aam Aadmi Party have betrayed the people living in JJ clusters across Delhi. He said that the Aam Aadmi Party was distributing slips while the BJP was making people to fill up forms. Others present at the Press Conference were chief spokesperson Shri Mukesh Sharma, ex-MP Shri Mahabal Mishra, former Municipal Councillors Khawinder Singh Captain, Ms. Indu Verma, Shivani Chopra and Kabir Jolly.

Shri Subhash Chopra asked the BJP and AAP why they were not allotting the in-situ multi-storey DDA flats constructed in Kalkajit when he was the area MLA to relocate those living in the JJ Clusters if they were so concerned with the plight of the poor. Shri Chopra elaborated that when Shri Ajay Maken was a Union Minister, flats were constructed at the Katputhli Colony and Ashok Vihar, but these flats have also not been allotted to the JJ Cluster dwellers. Shri Chopra said that both BJP and AAP were trying to take credit for the construction of these flats by publishing the photos of these flats in newspapers, and in the process exposing and making fools of themselves.

Shri Chopra alleged that the multi-storey flats constructed in Kalkaji at a cost of Rs 260,38,27,200.00 crore were delayed by three and a half years. He said that the flats in Kalkaji have all the modern facilities, including power backups and lifts. He said that the complex will also have amenities like schools, anganwadis, dispensaries, parks, community halls, religious places etc. “It is a township in a town”, Shri Chopra added.

Shri Subhash Chopra said that it was his dream to construct flats to relocate the poor people living in the JJ Clusters at Nav Jeevan Camp, Bhumiheen Camp and Nehru Camp in Kalkaji, and when he became a member of the DDA, he pursued the matter with the then Lt. Governor of Delhi, and got clearance from 19 Government departments after running after it for four years.

Shri Subhash Chopra and Shri Mukesh Sharma, replying to a question, said that the BJP and AAP Governments were hands-in-glove to betray and mislead over 40 lakh people in the name of giving ownership rights for their dwelling units in unauthorized colonies, and these people feel completely let down by both these parties. Shri Chopra challenged both BJP and AAP that if they have courage, then they should make public how much money was collected from the 20 people for giving them conveyance deed and registry. Shri Chopra said that due to the wrong step like demonetization, lakhs of people have fled Delhi, and that was the reason for the reduction of voters in Delhi.

Shri Mukesh Sharma said that the Congress party has always protected the interest of the dwellers of JJ clusters by providing all civic amenities and for relocating them. He recalled that when Smt. Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister, 46 resettlement colonies were setup and that record still remains as a landmark decision in the history of Delhi.
