New Delhi: Under the leadership of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Subhash Chopra, Congress workers will hold a peaceful ‘samuhik upvaas’ from the New Year-eve evening of December 31, 2019 till the morning of 1st January, 2020 in Connaught Place, Inner Circle, to protest against the anti-people policies of the BJP and Aam Aadmi Party Governments. The Congress workers will also not participate in any New Year celebration. This was announced by Campaign Committee chairman Shri Kirti Azad at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan, here today. Chief spokesperson Shri Mukesh Sharma and convenor of the Campaign Committee Shri Chattar Singh were also present at the Press Conference.
Shri Kirti Azad and Shri Mukesh Sharma said that the party took this decision to protest against the terrible plight of Delhi due to the anti-people policies of the BJP and AAP Governments, severe air pollution, economic distress, rising unemployment and the betrayal of those living in unauthorized colonies and JJ Clusters.
Shri Kirti Azad and Shri Chattar Singh said that the party will run a novel and different kind of election campaigns by mobilizing workers at the grass-root level. They said that the first phase of the election campaign will be held from January 2 to 6 with door-to-door visits to expose the lies and hollow promises of both BJP and AAP. The party workers will also publicize the achievements and massive development works carried out by the Congress Government during its 15-year tenure. They said that Election Campaign committees will be constituted at the district and block levels. They said that the party will also extensively use local media, social media and digital communication to counter the lies and hollow promises of BJP and AAP.
Shri Kirti Azad said that the Campaign Committee has already started the “Mera Booth—Sabse Majboot” campaigns to mobilize the party workers at the booth-level. He disclosed that the party will also hold road shows and rallies in a big way. Shri Azad said that Congress president Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Shri Rahul Gandhi and Smt. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will also address rallies and public meetings in Delhi, and their programmes are being worked out.
Shri Mukesh Sharma said that work on a Control Room at Rajiv Bhawan is in progress from where the party will mount aggressive campaigns against the BJP and AAP. He said that the Congress manifesto will include a detailed plan for the Sheila Dikshit Pension Yojana. Shri Sharma disclosed that the Congress will increase the pension scheme from the present 5,30,000 to 7,50,000 and the pension amount will be doubled for all categories. He said that Rs 5000 monthly pension for old people above 69 years will be included in this scheme. He said that the AAP Government failed to meet the pension target as 87,193 people went out of the pension bracket.
