New Delhi: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Subhash Chopra, while wishing the people of Delhi on the occasion of Independence Day, said that the Congress party’s fight now will be to protect the independence of the country and save the Constitution. He said that India became free from foreign rule after lakhs of people sacrificed their lives, with the freedom struggle being led by Congress leaders. Shri Chopra said that before 1947, the Congress leaders and workers led the independence struggle, and after independence, Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar framed the Constitution to give equal rights to every citizen while the first Prime Minister of independent India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru worked hard to make India a strong and self-sufficient nation. Shri Chopra said that now certain communal and sectarian forces in their greed for power are trying to subvert the Constitution, to divide the country and polarize the people on communal lines, and compromise the independence of the country. He said that the Congress was now trying to protect the Constitution and save the country from divisive forces to protect its independence.
Shri Subhash Chopra today inaugurated the election offices of Congress candidate for the Okhla Assembly seat Shri Parvez Hashmi, Laxmi Nagar Assembly seat candidate Shri Hari Dutt Sharma, Dwarka Assembly seat candidate Shri Adarsh Shastri, Rajouri Garden Assembly seat candidate Shri Amandeep Singh Sudan and Shakurbasti Assembly seat candidate Shri Devraj Arora.
Shri Subhash Chopra said that both BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party were trying to mislead the people of Delhi with lies and falsehood to cover up their failures on all fronts in the last five years. He said that BJP was trying to create divide among the people on communal lines by passing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in its bid to capture power in Delhi. Shri Chopra said that when youth and students were protesting in their universities and on the streets against this draconian CAA, police tried to crush their voice with force but Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was resting in the comforts of his official bungalow and did not utter a word against the police high-handedness at the students. Shri Chopra said that when the Congress party came to the support of the students and women protesting against CAA, the rattled BJP and AAP came out to mislead the people with their provocative statements to trade charges and counter charges but the Congress stand has been receiving overwhelming support from the people.
Shri Subhash Chopra said that the people of Delhi, fed up with the incompetence of both the AAP Government in Delhi and the BJP-ruled Municipal Corporations of Delhi, were now impatiently waiting to bring Congress back to power.
DPCC spokesperson and ex-MLA Shri Anil Bhardwaj and Prof. Rattan Jain said that Congress party’s election campaigns were getting tremendous support from people across Delhi as the Congress candidates were mostly depending on personal interaction with the people.
