Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief spokesperson Shri Mukesh Sharma said that ex-MLA Shoaib Iqbal was aware of the fact that he would not get the Congress ticket for the Delhi Assembly elections due to opposition by the area Congress workers and local people and that was the reason for his joining the Aam Aadmi Party.
Shri Sharma said that till a few hours ago, Shoaib Iqbal has been criticizing Arvind Kejriwal on NRC (National Registry of Citizens) and other issues, but his sudden decision to join the AAP has now become very clear to people. He said that the Congress party has a strong candidate for the Matia Mahal Assembly seat whose winning chances are very bright.
Shri Sharma said that since 1993, Shoaib Iqbal has been changing parties at his whim, leaving Janata Dal, JDU etc. when he is denied ticket. He said that his joining the AAP will have no impact on the Congress prospects, as the party is strongly placed in the constituency, and the party workers and local people, who were against him, will now work with more dedication and commitment.
Shri Mukesh Sharma said that it was the decision of the Congress party to hold peaceful agitation against the Citizenship Amendment Act, and not the decision of any individual. He said that the party stands by its decision on CAA and protests against it will continue in a democratic manner.
